Dinah Zike's Notebooking Central Notebook Foldables Physical Geography and Map Skills
This 46-page Notebooking Central booklet is filled with templates designed for use in individual student notebooks to support instruction in physical geography and map skills. Even in today's electronic world it is important to have a strong physical geography background and to understand how things can be represented in a spatial context. We hear daily references to geographic locations and so many students don't have a sense of where those places are--that is the purpose of this book.
Topics covered include: essential elements and themes of geography, directions, hemispheres, location, maps and globes, oceans, continents, islands, landforms, mountain ranges and rifts, coasts, lakes, rivers, climate zones, and frozen earth (see Table of Contents for complete list).
This series of Notebooking Central booklets is a response to teachers who asked for Notebook Foldables that:
- provide graphics to aid comprehension and memory
- provide front tabs that elicit student responses on the back of tabs, underneath tabs, and on the notebook page surrounding tabs
- provide ideas on the use of Notebook Foldables within different content areas
Notebook Foldables can easily be integrated into any notebooking program. For more in-depth information on Notebook Foldables strategies, please consider Dinah Zike's Notebook Foldables for Spirals, Binders, and Composition Books book and companion CD, a 2011 Teachers' Choice Award winner.

Overall, I am happy with this purchase. There are some pages that are so specific that I am not able to use them, and I am disappointed in the lack of response to creating a new page for the five oceans.
NOTE FROM STORE: We now offer a pdf for the 5 Oceans; go to http://www.dinah.com/resources/Templates/fiveoceans_Layout-1.pdf to download your copy. Thank you for your feedback!

The activities are great for ESL students and students who learn through visuals and hands-on activities. Having students create a notebook that they can keep will be something they can refer to in grades beyond, too! And, though I bought the geography book, there are many cut-outs that can be used in science, as well.
